Alvin Mak is a digital artist based in Hong Kong. He was trained as a mechanical engineer and worked in manufacturing for ten years. He is a self-taught artist who has been creating art since 2006. He has been a full-time artist since 2009, creating works for hospitality projects. His artworks can be seen in hotels and offices throughout Asia. He works with photography, digital collage, and sculpture design before focusing on digital generative art.
Mak takes an empirical approach to art making. He is constantly experimenting with new artworks and testing new methods. Most of his artworks delve into concepts ranging from mood/impression to cerebral ideas such as cognition, perception, and adaptation, examining the formation and evolution of ideas. The mind navigates its way through a constantly changing sea of information. As it adapts, its vision adjusts from confusion to cerebration. As new ideas emerge at the end of the process, they are released into the world to be tested. And the mind prepares itself for the next iteration of thinking.
