Maya Beano is a scientist and photographer born in 1991 in Amman, Jordan. In the late 2000s, she moved to the UK to study natural sciences at the University of Cambridge, graduating in 2013. She currently works as an oncology scientist in Cambridge, UK, but devotes all her free time to her photographic projects. She considers photography as a form of visual poetry and is particularly interested in themes such as loss, memory and identity. Fascinated by landscapes that seem both timeless and futuristic, her photos explore the link between man and nature, with a special emphasis on mood, surreal moments and the sublime. Her work is strongly influenced by the paintings of the romantic era and combines feelings of wonder and nostalgia. The result is a colourful, ethereal, playful, fantastic and melancholic atmosphere.
Maya’s photos have been printed internationally, including Yen Magazine, If You Leave, The Adventure Handbook, Oh Comely Magazine, Lomography Magazine and Kwerfeldein Magazine. Her work has also been exhibited in Cambridge, London and Australia.
